Shale versus Screaming Hawk

After the Fat Tire Festival, I was taking it a bit easy in preparation of the Miami X-terra, so this particular Friday became a great time to take Shael (my almost six-year old son) out to Chuck Lennon in DeLeon Springs for a ride that he has been asking for since the last time we went (too long ago). On our previous visit, we did two laps and ran out of time. This time, I figured we had three laps on the Screaming Hawk until he pooped out. I couldn’t have been more wrong. After the third lap, he was chomping at the bit for more. This probably had something to do with the fact that he rode the log ride like it was nothing and I helped him down the steep drop (to his protest). We rode on for the fourth lap, and though I could tell his legs were getting tired, this did not stop him from nailing the log ride again and completing the steep drop with no help from me (I did make him stop, so I could spot him just in case). When we arrived back at the hub, he actually wanted to do another lap, but we were done because we had no food, almost no water, and it was already two hours past lunch. Off went went down Raccoon Run to find our way through the bailouts to the parking lot. Total time = 1:45. Total miles = 11. Crazy little bugger if you ask me.
