San Felasco Hammock Preserve

Went to San Felasco Hammock Preserve yesterday. What a place to ride. It is an extensive trail system just north of Gainesville, FL. We rode over 32 miles with barely touching the same trails, some were different because we rode them both ways, though I’m not really sure exactly what or where in the Preserve we rode. I met up with a crew that knows the trails, so it was follow and try to keep up. Our total time was about 3 1/4 hours in the saddle. Great day of riding. There is also a state park website with information. The conditions were really quite good – mainly hardpack with some pine straw and leaf litter to keep you honest on the switchbacks. The system winds through some grassland, pine forest, hardwood forest with some streams around and plenty of up and down – considerably more elevation gain and loss than anywhere in Volusia County.
