Chuck Lennon Park / De Leon Springs

The boys and I had a great ride at Chuck Lennon Park today. The summertime heat is waning and the trail conditions are coming back after a long, hot and wet summer. The blue loop (Hoot Owl and Raccoon Run) and red loop (Red Panther) were in good condition, not great but much better than the last couple months. There were a couple spots on red that had some soft mushiness left; blue was even better, but both had some places where the washout has left some funkiness on the steeper  hills. Slight alternation of my line fixed an issues. Yellow (Screaming Hawk) was the real surprise. It was quite wet and funky in quite a few places, and the ditches along the trail, especially the loop around the pit, were full of putrid water. A missed line could have resulted in some seriously nasty waterlogged gear and a bellow of laughs from the crew. The water table must be way up because yellow is usually the driest loop out there. A few times a couple months ago, yellow was the only loop to ride; the others, especially red, were too wet and riding would have done unneeded damage. Overall, we hit red and blue three times each and yellow once. We kept a good all-day pace with some times of pushing up into the top range of my zone three. With a few breaks for breathe and fuel, we got in 2 1/2 or so hours of fun.
